    Park Avenue by Renee Ahdieh

    Book Summary.

    PARK AVENUE

    Renee Adieh

I did not know what to expect from Adieh’s adult contemporary novel. Whatever it was I was expecting this is not that.

PARK AVENUE stars Jia, well, we’ll call her Jia. Jia is a lawyer and just made junior partner and her first case is a big one. Not only will it prove her worthy for the position she recently acquired but will also set her up for further promotion.

The case concerns the Park family. A world-famous, rich, Korean family that’s in the middle of a dispute over the entire fortune. The family is at odds, the matriarch is dying, and Jia will find herself in the middle of it.

    The Review.

This is for the girls who learned to notice labels early, would never wear vachetta in the rain, and consider their SA’s friends with benefits.

I had so much fun reading PARK AVENUE. It was the best way to bring in early summer. PARK AVENUE is fun and lively. It is not a thriller but is structured like one with every aspect of what a thriller includes. The storyline, however, is contemporary and romantic.

This combination led to a propulsive read. Complete with twists and turns, a ticking clock, a crucible, and a contract.

    I was impressed.

  • Book Review: We Live Here Now by Sarah Pinborough

We Live Here Now by Sarah Pinborough

    Book Summary.

    WE LIVE HERE NOW

    Sarah Pinborough

    I’m breaking up with thrillers.

WE LIVE HERE NOW was the final straw. I have several thrillers to read upcoming in the year and I’m not looking forward to any of them. I’m burnt out from these storylines and bored with the twists.

Every Thursday I have tried to post about an upcoming thriller. We are going to have to change things up and see what happens. If I’m bored with you it I assume you are.

For now, let’s talk about WE LIVE HERE NOW.

Emily moved to a place in the country. Her husband is full of concern, and care, secrets and lies. He wants nothing more than for her to come back to herself.

As days turn to weeks. And months turn into a half year instead of getting more comfortable in her new living situation the opposite has happened. She hears noises at night, feels like she has company when she is alone, and is sure the house is haunted.

She will do anything and everything to get to the bottom of the mystery. Be it her sanity, her marriage, or her self. She will lose almost everything to find the truth.

    The Review.

I feel like Pinborough wrote this book in a vacuum. Unaware of everything that has been published in the last five years. If this book had come out five years ago, it would’ve been amazing.

However, as it is, it’s just one more disappointing thriller.

I gave WE LIVE HERE NOW three stars.

The Last Ferry Out by Andrea Bartz

    Book Summary.

    THE LAST FERRY OUT

    Andrea Bartz

    Eszter is dead.

Eszter died a few months ago while visiting an island in Mexico and Abby is filled with questions. She decides to visit the area to do her own investigation.

When she arrives, she seeks out the fellow travelers and expats that Eszter spent her time with while in Mexico. Initially, they seem warm and receptive to her but when she asks one question too many, she soon realizes her life might be in danger too.

As Abby comes closer to the answers, she travels further from the truth.

    The Review.

I enjoyed my time reading THE LAST FERRY OUT. It felt like a palate pleaser. It is extremely easy to read. The writing is precise and smart.

For the most part, the reading experience feels like wading in a shallow pool of water. It is very low propulsion without a lot pulling you forward. A soft, gentle wave rather than a tsunami.

Don’t expect to be up late-night reading, don’t expect to be on the edge of your seat. There are other thrillers for that.

THE LAST FERRY OUT comes out next Tuesday, May 20!
