We Are All Guilty Here by Karin Slaughter

    Book Summary.

    WE ARE ALL GUILTY HERE

    Karin Slaughter

A favorite author, a brand-new series, and it’s the talk of the summer.

The book begins on July 4th. Emmy meets with a young girl. By the end of the night, she will be missing. This isn’t just any girl; it’s her best friend’s daughter.

On the hunt, following clues as the mystery unfolds, each new layer holds the key, but to what?

To find where the girls are, Emmy must reveal truths about her small town. Truths that expose the nature of a beast. A secret that is bigger and goes wider than Emmy ever thought. By the end of the novel, Emmy will think differently about the town, about the girls, about herself.

    The Review.

I couldn’t wait to read this new book in a series by Karin Slaughter. Slaughter is one of my favorite authors. If you’re unfamiliar with her work, the one thing to know is that she’s not messing around.

This book was fantastic. It sets the stage for the entire series. We are introduced to a cast of characters. All of which I look forward to learning more about and hearing their story.

Emmy is perfect as an MC. She is flawed and doesn’t always do or say the right thing. She is human, and I loved following her in this book.

If this isn’t already on your summer TBR, it should be.

    Book Summary.

    THE GHOSTWRITER

    Julie Clark

The summer thrillers are here, and I want to start with an excellent one.

Olivia is a ghostwriter. One day, she receives a request from her agent. Her father, Vincent, would like her to ghostwrite his latest project.

    She reluctantly agrees.

If you’ve seen the publisher synopsis, you know my hands are tied. So, I’ll leave it there.

    No Spoilers Here!

    The Review.

I enjoyed my time reading THE GHOSTWRITER. There are two storylines. The main one is fully fleshed out and explored. The secondary storyline felt a bit rushed, which was my only complaint.

The characters are constructed well, the writing is great, and the pacing is pitch-perfect. This would make an excellent Father’s Day gift for someone who is stuck in a thriller rut.

THE GHOSTWRITER instantly reminded me of the show HAPPY FACE. If you like that show and the dynamics it presents, I would recommend checking out THE GHOSTWRITER.

    Book Summary.

    THE EXPAT AFFAIR

    Kimberly Belle

    A story of two halves.

Rayna wakes up to the sound of a shower running. Scenes from the night before flash in her head. She met a man, she’s in his bed, and he’s in the shower. She lays there for a time and then decides to go and check on the man from last night, and she finds him dead.

Now the only suspect, Rayna must find out who killed him and why so she can stay on step ahead of the murderer. She thinks she will solve a simple mystery but ends up unraveling a diamond sized underground network.

Will she solve the mystery before she becomes the next victim?

    The Review.

There are so many interesting aspects to the life of an expat. And being set in Amsterdam provided an extra level of atmosphere.

The first half of the book is clean and clear. The story is interesting and enjoyable at first. But in the second half, things suddenly became convoluted. And by the end it was a completely different book than how it started.

The second half was rushed and trying hard to connect all loose ends, and it felt like a lot of work to write and ended up feeling like a lot of work to read.

I will continue to pick up Belle’s books and look forward to the next one.
