Alone in the Dark by Joanne Ryan

    Book Summary.

ALONE IN THE DARK Joanne Ryan I am so thankful to be a part of promoting ALONE IN THE DARK by Joanne Ryan. ALONE IN THE DARK was released earlier this year and it deserves more attention than it got. With only 55 ratings to date on Goodreads, this book is my UNDER THE RADAR BOOKS pick of the month. Let’s get into what I liked about it and why it got one less star than it should have. It’s probably all my fault. Her favorite time to run is when she’s ALONE IN THE DARK. On one such night, she stumbles upon something that will alter her course and change her life forever. What she sees that night is almost too strange to believe and soon those very beliefs come into question in Joanne Ryan’s ALONE IN THE DARK.

    The Review.

I enjoyed my time reading. The writing was good and easy to read. I liked the carriage of the story, but it really had an unsatisfying plot. Not much here to surprise you, nothing here is going to blow your mind. It unwound just the way I thought it would. I think the problem might have been that it was too simple. I gave it four stars, but it easily could’ve gotten five, if it had not been so straightforward. If all the roads didn’t lead to the same place, the ride would have been more interesting. I do not remember there being any false leads or any red herrings. Everything mentioned had a point. And instead of filtering through clues to solve the mystery everything was laid out in front of you for the taking. I imagine if you hadn’t read 1000 thrillers like I have, you’d have had a more rewarding experience. I read it in one sitting, and I can’t imagine if I had put it down, that there would be anything calling me back to the story. One thing, but it’s a big deal for me as a reader. I recommend this title wholeheartedly with one major caveat, don’t expect your mind to be blown, don’t put it in a perilous position on your TBR, position it wisely and you’ll be golden. ALONE IN THE DARK is on Kindle Unlimited and available where books are sold. If you decide to pick it up, come back here, and let’s talk about it. Thanks to Joanne Ryan, Rachel’s Random Resources, Netgalley, and Boldwood Books for inviting me to be a part of this tour and for the opportunity to provide feedback! ALONE IN THE DARK…⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • Book Review: Society of Lies by Lauren Ling Brown

Society of Lies by Lauren Ling Brown

    Book Summary.

SOCIETY OF LIES Lauren Ling Brown If you gave me ten dollars to reread this book I would give you ten reasons I would pass. I didn’t have a good reading experience with SOCIETY OF LIES and my intuition tells me you won’t either. Let’s talk about it! SOCIETY OF LIES stars sisters Maya and Naomi. Maya is set to attend her reunion at the same time her sister, Naomi, is set to graduate. When Naomi turns up dead Maya is the first to suspect there may be more to the story than detectives are telling her. She knows her sister better than anyone and she takes it upon herself to investigate Naomi’s mysterious death. What she finds out is more than she ever expected. SOCIETY OF LIES is about the dark sides of private institutions and the lengths people will go to fit in even if it means being anyone other than yourself.

    The Review.

If I gave you a summary with spoilers you would be able to spot a big hole in the plot. A few pages in, and I already had to suspend disbelief. That is not good. From that point on, every exclamation point turned weary and appeared to be a question mark. Instead of questioning the characters’ motives, I mentally fact-checked every section of dialogue, every passage of exposition, basically EVERYTHING. SOCIETY OF LIES is the most confusing book I’ve read in a long time. There are past and present timelines where the same characters appear and interact with each other. If you’re not paying special attention to dates and pov, you can easily lose track of your timeline and the focus. There is a mystery in both, so good luck keeping the clues straight. I took a lot of notes and was still confused which is no fun at all. And the most unsatisfying part is the novel you’re getting behind all the confusion, hardly seems worth it. This is my first time reading Lauren Ling Brown and I was overall frustrated with my reading experience and found no gold within those hills to keep me coming back. Thanks to Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group – Ballantine | Bantam for the advanced copy! SOCIETY OF LIES…⭐⭐

  • Book Review: Everyone on This Train Is a Suspect by Benjamin Stevenson

Everyone on This Train Is a Suspect by Benjamin Stevenson

    Book Summary.

EVERYONE ON THIS TRAIN IS A SUSPECT Benjamin Stephenson Word on the street is Benjamin Stephenson is the author to watch. He published the hit EVERYONE IN MY FAMILY IS A SUSPECT in 2022 and now its sequel EVERYONE ON THIS TRAIN IS A SUSPECT has arrived in stores. I did not read the first book in the series, so I had nothing to compare it to. Everyone is saying that this one is better than the first. I’m curious what you think so please leave a comment if you’ve read this one and let me know what you think of it. In EVERYONE ON THIS TRAIN IS A SUSPECT we are following Ernest Cunningham. Ernest was invited to a crime writers’ festival, and he must take a train to get there. Almost everyone on the train is in the publishing industry or an author. On the way someone dies and everyone on the train is a suspect. It’s up to you and Ernest to solve the mystery. Are you up for it?

    The Review.

I feel like I should like EVERYONE ON THIS TRAIN IS A SUSPECT more than I do. It’s about publishing and books and writers and the mystery and thriller genres. Every other line is a joke or pun or a lighthearted poking. It’s almost like you’re reading two books. One is following the murder mystery and secondly, you’re following the production of a mystery novel. It’s meta and I can see the appeal. It’s just not the type of material that is going to keep me up all night reading. It’s not the type of material that will have me rapidly turning pages and although I enjoyed it, it doesn’t have me wanting to continue in the series. Thanks to Netgalley and Mariner Books for the advanced copy! EVERYONE ON THIS TRAIN IS A SUSPECT…⭐⭐⭐⭐
