Peter Miles Has To Die by Katie Collom

    Book Summary.

    Peter Miles Has to Die

    Katie Collom

PETER MILES HAS TO DIE comes out next Tuesday.

Once there were four of them. Then Beck died. And now it’s just the three of them. There are Dylan, Isabel, and Priya. They have nothing but revenge on their mind. Dylan works at Aces of Spades, a local bar where Peter frequents, and it doesn’t take long for a plan to form.

With no investigation, no jury of peers, no justice. PETER MILES HAS TO DIE.

    The Review.

For the most part, I enjoyed reading PMHTD. Unfortunately, Collom tends to write all the action scenes behind closed doors. Repeatedly, she would cut away from the action. There would be a big lead-up, and then it is alluded to. I wanted more action.

Writing in the very beginning is tough to read. But it smoothed out. The characters feel thin, and I didn’t feel this big desire for revenge within them. You knew they wanted revenge because the words said they did, but their actions didn’t show it.

    Book Summary.

    What’s Yours is Mine

    Jennifer Jabaley

In WHAT’S YOURS IS MINE, we are following Valerie. Valerie is jealous of Elise for many reasons. Her daughter Kate adores her; she basically runs the dance school, and she’s married to Andrew who Valerie secretly has a crush on.

There is an upcoming dance competition where Kate is pitted against her best friend, Colette, Elise’s daughter. Suddenly, things at the dance school become very, very serious.

    The Review.

Valerie is messy. There were times while reading that I thought her viewpoint was significant but unnecessary. Being in her head took me out of the story. There was a distance between me and the action. Everything felt second-hand.

Sitting at 395 pages, the book is long, and it felt like it. Take Valerie out and you have a rivals gone reckless young adult novel. I believe it would have been more successful that way.

    The Library at Hellebore

Attention…THE SHOP is open! Check it out for handmade goods straight from my studio to your home.

Welcome to THE LIBRARY AT HELLEBORE. The students who are left are barricaded in the library, aware of their mortality.  Make the wrong move and they’ll end up like Randy or Sue, left to be a shriveling mass of unrecognizable viscera.

    Dark, fantastical, otherworldly.

If you’re shaking your head, saying you won’t fall for Khaw’s tricks again, I understand.

    The Review.

There is a miracle in the madness. Library at Hellebore is a fever dream, like all the rest of Khaw’s work. A bumpy ride. A freakish amalgamation of things that are horrifying and weird, and awkward.

I love reading these kinds of books in a particular way. I like to let the words and the story wash over me. Whatever is left once the wave recedes is meant for me. I don’t try to hold onto every detail, I don’t try to remember every aspect of a character’s nature, I’m not even trying to piece together the story. I just allow it.

You may take nothing away from the book except anxiety, nightmares, and a feeling of doom. The writing is unpredictable. Making every kill feel like it’s appearing magically out of thin air. As soon as you figure out what’s next…it’s over.

Until next time, Khaw. I’ll be waiting!
