Book Review: The Future Saints by Ashley Winstead

The Future Saints by Ashley Winstead

Book Summary.

THE FUTURE SAINTS Ashley Winstead.  Unpopular opinion upcoming… Winsteads books either work for me or they don’t. I either love it or hate it. There is no in between- until now. I gave THE FUTURE SAINTS three stars. It felt mid. I’m sorry to report it is not like DAISY JONES. Not close. The setup is this: Theo takes on the management of a band at the door of destruction hoping he can turn the band around. What he doesn’t know is it will take most of him, all of him, to attempt to. Hannah is the lead of the band. And she will be his undoing. One note at a time.

The Review.

A love story is promised and it was given. However it ended up. I had no connection to any of the characters. I had no connection to the story. I did not care what happened to any of them. The writing is missing a bit of charisma. It is missing that spark. That fire. It has a lot to do with Theo. Theo is as inert as they come. He was not constructed well. I don’t feel like he should have been the narrative choice. For god sakes why not Hannah. Comparing it to a book that has fanfare and a following, a tv show adaptation, and awards is not exactly telling the truth of it. Don’t expect to come away buzzing after reading it. Don’t expect to come away with a new favorite character. Don’t expect it to cement Winstead as an auto buy author and this might be the book for you. I recommend to completionists and them alone. Thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for the advanced copy!
