One Of Us Is Dead by Jeneva Rose

    Synopsis.

The highly anticipated new thriller from the bestselling author of The Perfect Marriage. Opulence. Sex. Betrayal … Sometimes friendship can be deadly. Meet the women of Buckhead—a place of expensive cars, huge houses, and competitive friendships. Shannon was once the queen bee of Buckhead. But she’s been unceremoniously dumped by Bryce, her politician husband. When Bryce replaces her with a much younger woman, Shannon sets out to take revenge … Crystal has stepped into Shannon’s old shoes. A young, innocent Texan girl, she simply has no idea what she’s up against … Olivia has waited years to take Shannon’s crown as the unofficial queen of Buckhead. Finally, her moment has come. But to take her rightful place, she will need to use every backstabbing, manipulative, underhand trick in the book … Jenny owns Glow, the most exclusive salon in town. Jenny knows all her clients’ secrets and darkest desires. But will she ever tell? Who amongst these women will be clever enough to survive Buckhead—and who will wind up dead? They say that friendships can be complex, but no one said it could ever be this deadly.

    The Review

I’m not sure why I like Jeneva Rose books so much. Perhaps because she doesn’t take herself too seriously. Reading this one, ONE OF US IS DEAD is a bit like watching reality television. I won’t call it a guilty pleasure because I don’t really believe in that. It’s set in and around a beauty salon in an affluent community. The women are catty and behave inappropriately and that’s all part of the fun. There were a couple spots where catch-phrases were used that bordered on offensive. Again, supposedly part of the enjoyment. I recommend to readers who don’t take reading too seriously and don’t need a heavy plot or super serious characters. Have fun with this one! I think this would make an exceptional vacation read. One you can laugh at and remember why reading is supposed to be fun. Thanks to Netgalley and Blackstone Publishing for the advanced copy! Out 4.26 ONE OF US IS DEAD…⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  • Book Review: Nine Lives by Peter Swanson – Under The Radar Books

    Nine Lives by Peter Swanson

    Synopsis.

Nine strangers receive a list with their names on it in the mail. Nothing else, just a list of names on a single sheet of paper. None of the nine people know or have ever met the others on the list. They dismiss it as junk mail, a fluke – until very, very bad things begin happening to people on the list. First, a well-liked old man is drowned on a beach in the small town of Kennewick, Maine. Then, a father is shot in the back while running through his quiet neighborhood in suburban Massachusetts. A frightening pattern is emerging, but what do these nine people have in common? Their professions range from oncology nurse to aspiring actor. FBI agent Jessica Winslow, who is on the list herself, is determined to find out. Could there be some dark secret that binds them all together? Or is this the work of a murderous madman? As the mysterious sender stalks these nine strangers, they find themselves constantly looking over their shoulders, wondering who will be crossed off next….

    The Review

Oh, Peter…you had me. I was there. Right there with you. I loved the homage to Agatha Christie. I loved the idea of the NINE LIVES. I loved trying to guess what each of them had in common. I was right there. And then you did it. You did the one thing that I just cannot excuse. My one pet peeve. Well, maybe I have several. But this one… The book hums along and gets to the end where everything has to wrap up. Where it has to start to make sense. And Peter Swanson decides to wrap up every loose end in a way that annoys the heck out of me. That doesn’t work. And it’s lazy. But oh was it enjoyable! Could’ve easily been five stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  • Book Review: The Way Of Integrity by Martha Beck – Under The Radar Books

The Way of Intergrity by Martha Beck

    Synopsis.

“As Martha Beck says in her book, “Integrity is the cure for psychological suffering. Period.” In The Way of Integrity, Beck presents a four-stage process that anyone can use to find integrity, and with it, a sense of purpose, emotional healing, and a life free of mental suffering. Much of what plagues us–people pleasing, staying in stale relationships, negative habits–all point to what happens when we are out of touch with what truly makes us feel whole. Inspired by The Divine Comedy, Beck uses Dante’s classic hero’s journey as a framework to break down the process of attaining personal integrity into small, manageable steps. She shows how to read our internal signals that lead us towards our true path, and to recognize what we actually yearn for versus what our culture sells us. With techniques tested on hundreds of her clients, Beck brings her expertise as a social scientist, life coach and human being to help readers to uncover what integrity looks like in their own lives. She takes us on a spiritual adventure that not only will change the direction of our lives, but bring us to a place of genuine happiness”

    The Review

THE WAY OF INTEGRITY Martha Beck Martha Beck uses THE DIVINE COMEDY as a backdrop for understanding and contextualizing her concept of integrity. She asserts that those who live outside of their integrity suffer from misalignment and the more you live in your integrity the less you will suffer. It’s a pretty basic concept. Lying is bad. But I think it’s gold is in her explaining what living outside of your integrity is like. It’s not just about lying and telling the truth when people ask how you are. It’s also about living your dreams, following your purpose, what silence means for truth and integrity, and also saying no to what is not right for you and what doesn’t resonate with you. Overall, I enjoyed the book and its perspective. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thanks to Penguin Random House Audio for the advanced listening copy!
