Book Review: Happy Place by Emily Henry

Happy Place by Emily Henry

Synopsis.

Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t. They broke up six months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends. Which is how they find themselves sharing the largest bedroom at the Maine cottage that has been their friend group’s yearly getaway for the last decade. Their annual respite from the world, where for one vibrant, blue week they leave behind their daily lives; have copious amounts of cheese, wine, and seafood; and soak up the salty coastal air with the people who understand them most. Only this year, Harriet and Wyn are lying through their teeth while trying not to notice how desperately they still want each other. Because the cottage is for sale and this is the last week they’ll all have together in this place. They can’t stand to break their friends’ hearts, and so they’ll play their parts. Harriet will be the driven surgical resident who never starts a fight, and Wyn will be the laid-back charmer who never lets the cracks show. It’s a flawless plan (if you look at it from a great distance and through a pair of sunscreen-smeared sunglasses). After years of being in love, how hard can it be to fake it for one week… in front of those who know you best? A couple who broke up months ago make a pact to pretend to still be together for their annual weeklong vacation with their best friends in this glittering and wise new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry.

The Review.

HAPPY PLACE Emily Henry In my Happy Place, there are shelves and shelves stocked with a never-ending stack of Emily Henry books for me to read at my leisure. When all of Emily Henry’s books become movies, you’ll be glad I told you to read them all today. Specifically, this book. Because it’s great and it’s my favorite of hers. And it will make you fall in love with love again. Dr. Harriet, or Harry if you know her just ended an engagement with Wyn, the man she thought was the love of her life. Harry has been hiding from the truth and is in denial. Neither Harry nor Wyn told their friends about the breakup. It’s too much to say out loud. And now it’s time for their yearly getaway with their closest friends. They agree to pretend to still be engaged for the week and that’s where the book starts. First, Emily Henry could write a grocery list and I’d want to read it. And if Julia Whelan narrated her taxes to me-I’d listen. Whelan’s performance is perfection in this audiobook. If you’re only reading with your eyes, you are missing out on an experience with this one. The material is five stars before the performance and the narration makes it the best romance book I’ve read this year. The writing, especially the good scenes (all the love scenes) was fantastic. It’s never cringy with Henry and I think she’s written some of her best scenes in this book. Harry and Wyn and all of their friends were such fun characters, and I enjoyed the time I spent with them. The dynamic between Harry and Wyn was the best and the tension between them was electrifying. HAPPY PLACE comes out tomorrow April 25th. Links to order are above! Thanks to Penguin Random House Audio and Libro FM for the advanced audiobook copies! HAPPY PLACE…⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
