Book Review: The September House by Carissa Orlando

The September House by Carissa Orlando

Synopsis.

A woman is determined to stay in her dream home even after it becomes a haunted nightmare in this compulsively readable, twisty, and layered debut novel. When Margaret and her husband Hal bought the large Victorian house on Hawthorn Street—for sale at a surprisingly reasonable price—they couldn’t believe they finally had a home of their own. Then they discovered the hauntings. Every September, the walls drip blood. The ghosts of former inhabitants appear, and all of them are terrified of something that lurks in the basement. Most people would flee. Margaret is not most people. Margaret is staying. It’s her house. But after four years Hal can’t take it anymore, and he leaves abruptly. Now, he’s not returning calls, and their daughter Katherine—who knows nothing about the hauntings—arrives, intent on looking for her missing father. To make things worse, September has just begun, and with every attempt Margaret and Katherine make at finding Hal, the hauntings grow more harrowing, because there are some secrets the house needs to keep.

The Review.

THE SEPTEMBER HOUSE Carissa Orlando All month long at UTRB, we’ll be talking about horror and horror-adjacent books. The books will vary widely from books that are a cheeky good time to more serious and scary horror books. THE SEPTEMBER HOUSE is on the lighter side. Let’s talk about it! Hal is away. He couldn’t handle another September in THE SEPTEMBER HOUSE. Margaret is left to fend for herself. THE SEPTEMBER HOUSE is a lot to deal with. The walls bleed, and it’s haunted by an array of ghosts from scary to docile. Some mind their own business, others are aggressive and insert themselves into Margaret’s life. Will Margaret make it through this September alone or will the house claim another victim? And where did Hal go? I think having the correct expectations going in will make sure you have a quality reading experience. I had a good time reading THE SEPTEMBER HOUSE. It’s not scary. It’s fun in a cheeky way and if you’re in the right mood- a lot of fun. THE SEPTEMBER HOUSE will not haunt you in your nightmares. It will, however, make you think about all the ghosts in your closet and how they manifest in your reality. I listened to THE SEPTEMBER HOUSE, and I recommend reading it in audiobook format. Thanks to Penguin Random House Audio for the advanced copy! THE SEPTEMBER HOUSE…⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
